Die Kinder über dem Informationsmeer

Whether through rating platforms or comment sections, the internet presents an open invitation for users to share their unasked-for, anonymous opinions on most everything. This phenomenon has influenced the music world as well, and is beginning to drown out the voices of traditional classical critics. Thomas Meadowcroft's new piece "Die Kinder über dem Informationsmeer" for children's choir and string orchestra uses social media critiques of classical music as a framing device for the expectations that we hold for our digital future. The Solistenensemble Kaleidoskop parries with Schönberg's classic "Verklärte Nacht", in which a young couple seeks to start a nontraditional family, outside of the norms of societal expectations. The program is completed by an a-capella choir piece by William Byrd, "Memento salutis actor". more

Howling Wolf: Kaleidoskop vs D’Est

Within the framework of "Howling Wolf: Festival for Film-Music-Performance", Wolf Kino over 8 weeks in June and July will invite musicians to explore a variety of cinematic narratives – from avantgarde silent films to contemporary experimental films. For the duration of one week each of the musicians will investigate their specific approach to the topic and to the emotionality of the films and work on their own musical-performative concept. It is not about the composition or production of music for film, but about exploring what is possible with music and sound in relation to film. The audience can observe the process, the examination and rapprochement of film and music in public rehearsals as well as it can indulge in the final performative performances. Based on Chantal Akerman's "D'Est" (From the East, B 1993, 107 min.), a film that defies any categorization, the Solistenensemble Kaleidoskop will develop its musical production. more

Double bill in April

„Über den Fetischcharakter in der Musik und die Regression des Hörens“ is a music theater piece that combines arias by Verdi, Italian pop songs from the 60s and a lecture performance: Adorno's critical text is the starting point of a discursive evening with the theatre collective copy & waste. The Solistenensemble Kaleidoskop designs versatile and inclined planes in order to listen to possible echoes and meanings of the text and at the same time drown it out with several musical forms – a melodrama evolves, in which Adorno's renowned essay on "serious and pop music" itself seems to become music. In "Untitled" violist Yodfat Miron of Solistenensemble Kaleidoskop and dance and choreographer Alix Einaudy devote themselves to a new view on the relationship of body and music – an experiment with an open outcome. more

Kaleidoskop goes romantic – in series! Don't ask questions, and don't stop playing. In the concert series "FORT DA I–III" Franz Schubert, Sebastian Claren, César Franck, Philip Glass, Giacinto Scelsi, Theodor W. Adorno and Giuseppe Verdi meet Philipp Enders, copy & waste and Rashad Becker. RADIALSYSTEM V turns into a playground where you will hear splutters, stammers and scratches, and where you will indulge in the sweet sound of strings. First and foremost, it’s all about the music and the sensual, fragile, complex and touching ways in which it leads our thoughts into the unspeakable. more

The Invisible Cinema

Inside the Invisible Cinema, with its all black design, at the Austrian Film Museum the reality of the movie theatre room steps back in favour of the cinematic fiction and its carrier – the white screen. The concert "Les Vers Luisants" deals with the French composer and theorist Michel Chion and the relicts of his musique concrète. Under the direction of the Solistenensemble Kaleidoskop the empty screen of the film museum shows how diverse it can be: It talks, it sounds, it lights up – with music, film and texts by Morton Feldman, Peter Ablinger, Sebastian Claren, Mark Andre, Michel Chion, Ludwig van Beethoven, Gérard Grisey and Morgan Fisher. more
